The Robinson Brick Company was founded in 1880 has been successfully manufacturing brick for the past 119 years. Located in Denver, Colorado, it manufactures the world's most beautiful and comprehensive brick, thinbrick, stone and block masonry products. Since its inception, Robinson Brick has become one of the most technologically advanced manufacturing operations in the industry, including the implementation of this country's first robotic setting machine. It currently produces over 100 MM bricks per year and is widely recognized as a high quality manufacturer of clay products, exemplified by the fact that it is the only brick manufacturer registered under the international quality standard ISO 9001.
Acrobat Capture � was used to create new documents that contained the original TIFF image with text hidden behind the image that can be searched, indexed and copied like any other PDF document. FileNet's Content Services uses the hidden text for content based retrieval and Web Services enables content retrieval from the web. Using the Integral's conversion utilities, the PDF files and Watermark indexing information was loaded into Content Services thus making the old Watermark data searchable. With its new system, Robinson Brick is now able to search for text with their scanned documents and copy it into any Windows application.

Robinson Brick originally selected Watermark for their document imaging needs. However, they soon discovered this software to be cumbersome for managing data. An employee would sometimes spend hours looking for a single document due to the inherently poor organization of information in Watermark. When the Watermark system was discontinued, Robinson Brick found itself at a crucial juncture - deciding what imaging system to use and how it could better organize the data to eliminate the confusion and frustration it had experienced in the past. In keeping with their trend towards modernization, Robinson Brick selected Integral to manage the complete migration process including the data conversion and selected Content Services for the new document imaging system.

The Watermark system Robinson Brick used at the time consisted of over 1000 directories and 45 document types. All had to be mapped before the data could be transferred to the new system. This presented a challenge that was met by a unique custom mapping designed specifically for this client. In addition to the data conversion, Robinson Brick needed data cleanup and repair as well. Integral extracted key features of their existing Watermark system and constructed a prototype mapping for the separate document classes and properties. This required a custom mapping based primarily on the directory structure rather than the existing document types. Integral satisfied this requirement by generating a mapping from directories to properties and controlled vocabulary lists (CVLs) that greatly enhanced their previous Watermark structure. The next step in the process was to install FileNet's Content Services as the storage repository and convert all of the Watermark TIFF images into Adobe PDF Searchable Image documents. Adobe �

After completing the conversion, Integral generated audit trail reports listing the data conversions that took place. This gave Robinson Brick the ability to reference all of their converted documents. Also, with this crosschecking ability, Robinson Brick had the confidence that the conversion was correct.
